fOR THE FOURTH DAY OF GIVING, CARSON LAW WILL BE DONATING TO ELIZABETH FRY SOCIETY OF PELL-HALTON
The Elizabeth Fry Society of Peel-Halton works with Women who are at risk or are in conflict with the law by providing coping strategies and opportunities to help build confidence and guide them to be productive and empowered individuals.
In 1816, due to a visit to a local prison and seeing the horrible conditions, Elizbeth Fry funded a prison school for children who were imprisoned with their parents. She began a system of supervision and required the women to set and read the Bible. In 1817, she helped found the Association for the Reformation of the Female Prisoners in Newgate, England. This led to the creation of the British Ladiesβ Society for Promoting the Reformation of Female Prisoners. Starting as a volunteer organization over 46 years ago, The Elizabeth Fry Society of Peel-Halton has over fifty full-time staff and a number of contract volunteers.
At the Elizabeth Fry Society, they recognize that each of their clients has different needs, which are addressed by one of more of the Agencyβs 18 Adult programs & Youth programs.
These programs are designed to help clients in developing:
Responsibility for their own lives
Respect for self and others
Positive relations with family, friends and community
Pro-social values
Positive problem-solving and life skills
Their primary focus is pro-active crime prevention, lower recidivism rates, and successful integration into the community as demonstrated through more socially-congruent behaviour. The Elizabeth Fry Society heavily believes in:
Providing equality of opportunity
The value of diversity
The inherent right of individuals to make their own choices
Providing a non-judgmental environment that values every individual
Collaborative decision-making at all levels
An integrated approach in working with their clients, their support systems and communities
Active community participation
