On our eleventh day of giving, we are delighted to be donating to Emmanuel House hospice in Hamilton, Ontario.
Emmanuel House is more than a hospice; it is a place for people to experience their end-of-life journey with dignity and comfort in a place that feels like home.
Built in 1862 by Frederick W. Fearman, and once known as the “Ivy Lodge”, Good Shepherd converted the mansion into a 10-bed supportive housing residence for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Over time, the need for this type of residential care decreased, Good Shepherd then developed a community residential hospice for the city of Hamilton. Today, Emmanuel House provides quality of life, family wellness, respect, and a chance to continue to live with pride for those who are facing the most difficult and emotionally charged time in their lives.
Emmanuel House offers the following care and support for people with a life-limiting illness and their families:
A palliative care team provides 24-hour nursing care including pain and symptom management, a palliative care physician, social, psychological, spiritual, and practical support.
Experienced and compassionate staff to assist families with their emotional needs, and with understanding what is happening to their loved one.
All meals and laundry service are provided for residents.
Each resident has a private room with hospital bed, nursing call bell, telephone, cable television, small fridge, lounge chair, and private bathroom.

Emmanuel House Hospice was chosen by our Marketing Assistant, Stephanie Badour. During a difficult time for her and her family, her Nana stayed at Emmanuel House where she received excellent care and support. “I spend everyday and some nights at Emmanuel house for just over a month, and they treated us like family. No request was an annoyance, or too much. My Nana was treated with respect and compassion until her last breath. Nothing but appreciation and love for Emmanuel House Hospice. I also want to thank Carson Law for putting this incentive into place and having the staff feel so connected to something during the Holiday season.”
*A donation to Emmanuel House Hospice has been made in memory of Janice Badour.*
