for our final day of giving, we will be donating to two worthy charities. The Burlington Food Bank & The Wellington & District Storehouse.
The Burlington Food Banks’ mission is to provide nutritious food to the hungry of our community in a dignified and timely manner
How The Burlington Food Bank helps
Collecting Food - one of their main collection methods is through their food bins at grocery stores in the west end of Burlington.
Growing Food - The Burlington Food Bank not only works with local farmers and accepts fresh produce donations, but also grow fresh produce in their community garden plots that are located in The City of Burlington Community Garden located on Maple Ave.
Sorting Food - check quality of product, categorize and box sorted food, follow Health & Safety requirements
Purchasing Food - The Burlington Food Bank purchases fresh fruits and vegetables, milk and eggs every month to provide to families. They also purchase safe school snacks for the large number of children they assist every month.
Donating Food - Food donations are picked up each day by their volunteers. The Burlington Food Bank provides food for agencies ranging from other local Food Banks and distributors to smaller community food cupboards and their local community dinners.
The Storehouse Foodbank collects food, clothing and household items for families in need in Wellington and surrounding areas, from Bloomfield to Ameliasburgh, Consecon and Carrying Place.
The Storehouse is currently serving 372 individuals twice a month with basic necessities, including many seniors dealing with isolation and a fixed income. They strive to ensure that their work has a positive impact by involving individuals, companies, schools and community groups together to end hunger and poverty in the community.
